From Data to Know-How: Cracking the Code of KM

After last week’s dive into the COR—where we looked at data, trends, and patterns—today’s Knowledge Management class took us a step further. We talked about how data becomes knowledge, how IT fits in, and the difference between tacit and explicit knowledge.

So, what did we learn? The COR, which we thought was just information, can actually turn into real knowledge when used correctly. For example, when our professors use the COR to decide if we’re eligible for scholarships or internships, that’s where information turns into knowledge. “Imagine imong professor gamit imong COR para makasabot kung deserve ba ka sa 1 na grade—medyo parehas ra gyud sa magic, pero naa’y paperwork!”

We also learned the Knowledge Equation: Data + Information = Knowledge. Here’s the breakdown: Data is like raw ingredients—just facts with no real meaning. When you process this data, it becomes information, which starts to make sense and provide context. And when you use this information practically, you get knowledge. “Mura ra na sa pagturn sa basic recipe into lami nga pagkaon. Sa wakas, naa na’y flavor!”

Then, we talked about IT: Hardware + Software = Information Technology. Think of IT as a superhero team where hardware is the muscle and software is the brains. Together, they handle all the tech stuff we use every day. “Kung hardware ang muscle, software ang brains—together, they’re the ultimate tech team!”

We also looked at the difference between tacit and explicit knowledge. Explicit knowledge is clear and written down—like the COR itself. It’s stuff you can write or read, like guides and manuals. “Parehas ra na sa imong cheat sheet for life!” On the other hand, tacit knowledge is all about personal experience and intuition. It’s the stuff you learn by doing, like riding a bike or handling tricky social situations. “Mura na sa pagkuha sa perfect adobo nga walay recipe—totally intuitive!”

By the end of class, it was clear how data and information turn into knowledge, and how IT helps with this process. It felt like we’d unlocked a new level of understanding. “Kinda like finding the cheat code for real-world wisdom!”

So that’s it for today’s class. “Medyo naglibog pa gamay, pero lingaw gihapon! Can’t wait to see what’s next. ‘Til the next blog!”
